Dr. Reepa Shah

Dr. Reepa Shah is a board-certified Obstetrician & Gynecologist who has been serving the medical needs of women in the DC-Metro area since 2005. She was born and raised in the Hudson Valley area of New York State, moving to Boston for college and medical school, where she was admitted to Boston University’s prestigious 7-year combined medical degree program. She earned her dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Biochemistry and Comparative Religion and her Doctorate in Medicine, all with honors. She always wanted to practice medicine and discovered by age eighteen that she wanted to practice Obstetrics and Gynecology. After medical school, she continued her tour of the East Coast, moving down to the Washington D.C. area to complete a one-year research Fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology at the NIH. While there, she studied the mechanisms of the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian (HPO) axis, critical to both healthy transitions like menopause and disease states like PCOS, giving her unique expertise and knowledge compared to her peers. This inherent love of learning and constant curiosity has kept Dr. Shah at the top of her field and uniquely dedicated to her patients.

She completed her internship and residency clinical training at George Washington University Hospital, where she earned her board certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She has since delivered thousands of babies and performed countless surgeries but decided in 2019 to concentrate on Women’s Health and Gynecology care only, focused on ultrasound, pelvic, lower extremity vascular health, and pelvic pain specifically. Still dissatisfied with the impact she was making, she has now turned her attention to the much-needed and poorly addressed areas of obesity medicine, menopause, perimenopause, and all things in women’s health as they age. Obesity, cardiovascular disease, and dementia in women continue to rise despite public health efforts, while doctors who address these needs in an effective and holistic manner are few and far between. Dr. Shah recently earned her second board certification in obesity medicine and completed specialty training and certification in menopause care and osteoporosis management.

Dr. Shah is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the American Association of Physicians from India. She is also a member of the Menopause Society (Certified Practitioner – MSCP), the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health, the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, the American Board of Obesity Medicine, and the American Telemedicine Association.

Dr. Shah’s motivation is to bring the highest quality and most effective medical care to women as they grow from midlife to the end of life. Having had career exposure to academic medicine, corporate medicine, private equity, public healthcare, and the myriad of payor systems in the United States, she is determined to forge a better path for women in the U.S. She is a strong believer that the 21st century will be the century for women’s health and hopes to add a sizable contribution to that story. She strongly believes that the United States should have better data, better strategies, and better outcomes for women’s health, and she is resolute to make these changes a reality. Dr. Shah has made it her mission to help women achieve the healthiest, highest quality of life possible and to contribute to the growing body of knowledge defining human health, bringing a unique, refreshing, and much-needed new lens to the practice of medicine.

Having met her loving and fun partner, now husband, while living in Bethesda, Dr. Shah decided to make the area her home. Along the way, she also had her first child and eventually gave birth to 4 kids. She now lives happily in the Northern Virginia area with her family and friends and the support of a large, loving community. When not at work, Dr. Shah lives with her husband and school-aged twins, while her 2 eldest kids are off at the University of Michigan (go Blue!!). She loves to ski, read, meditate, travel, and look at real estate, and she tries to love exercise.
